26

Samuel had a birthday this weekend. He's not much into birthdays, celebrating, gifts, or surprises. Crazy right? I don't understand it at all but I love him anyway. Last year I managed to throw him a surprise birthday party but this year we kept things simple for my 26 year old. (movie, law school ball, and cake)

Some of my favorite things about my birthday boy:
- he tells me I look beautiful everyday
- he diligently flosses his teeth
- he does the dishes
- he carries the laundry up/down the stairs
- he scoops my ice cream
- he puts up with my constant back seat driving
- he gives me back massages
- he sends me a good luck text every morning before work
- he carries me up the hill to our apartment
- he lets me come to all his games as the only awkward wife/fan

Basically all of these just show how lazy I am and how great Samuel is. After a long day at school, he still will do the dishes and give me a back massage as I complain about my work day. I am so grateful for him in my life. Love you long time Samuel and HBD!

law school prom

Earlier this week I came home to a poster/little shrine asking me to the law school ball-- aka the greatest surprise ever! Samuel's not much of a "surpriser" so it was the best. I was so surprised/happy I maybe started crying a little bit...but can you blame me? It was like getting asked to high school prom all over again but better because it was my husband duh!
The night of the ball we got all dressed up and we even matched! Is that dedication or what?
How's this for cute prom pose picture? ^^
We tried our hardest but you can only do so much when you're posing in the kitchen with the self timer lol.
The dance was deece, but really what's better than two sober married mormons partying it up on the dance floor am I right or am I right? Really wishing that it was all a blur because after our dance moves Sam's law school friends probably find us completely deranged or obnoxious.

let's get physical

SPRING BREAK PART 2: Kayak tour and surf sesh

I'm all about physical fitness these days said no one ever (ok maybe crazy people but not me). I kind of have this fear of physical activity (in the gym sense that is). Weird right? But seriously one time we drove all the way to the gym and I couldn't get out of the car. "Gym-phobia" just consumed me and I made Sam leave the parking lot and go hiking with me instead. Physical activity is so much more fun when nature's involved.
(Sorry not sorry I've never been to the gym before but #gymphobia).
This spring break we have participated in our fair share of lounging and movie watching so a day of sun and surf was something I actually looked forward too. Like how about a kayak tour of the La Jolla sea caves and ecological reserve? So down. Down like Chinatown. Talk about my kind of physical activity.

The best thing about tandem kayaking was I got to enjoy the view while Sam did most of the hard work. He wouldn't even stop for a picture! But nothing's better than a nice action shot am I right? ^^
Not about to break the rules this spring break = kayaking in helmets and lifejackets.
But don't worry I made sure to capture all the danger and epicness on my handy waterproof camera ;)

And why not add to our day of kayak rowing with some hard core surfboard paddling. Gotta get those killer arms you know? But can we just take a minute to appreciate these photos from our little surfing session?
Ok seriously look at my surfer boy. I have heart eyes for him. ^^

So ya, I'm all about that ocean physical fitness these days but that's about as much physical activity as I can handle because let's be real, the waves are huge and I'm small. But shout out to all you gym goers. You are the real heros because gym-phobia is real and I have it.

SPRING BREAK PART 1: Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma

Oh hey spring break 2k15! This is our first real spring break in who knows how long (um let me rephrase that, EVER!)  and we couldn't be more thrilled. We are determined to fill this week with as much fun, relaxing and sleeping in as we can (even if it means pretending like I'm on spring break too) because that's what spring break is for.
We kicked off spring break with a visit to the Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma. This place is a hidden gem featuring WW2 bunkers and cemetery, a lighthouse, tide pools, and whale watching. Seriously we didn't even know this place existed but it was beyond beautiful! So with that said, here are tons of pictures because without pictures did spring break really happen?

Some more spring break adventures to come but until then...
cheers to spring break 2k15!

a farewell ode

Farewell to my best friend, sister, and twin.
Four months without your presence is surely a sin.
I'll try to view your Asian adventure with mirth
even though it's basically like you are falling off the face of the Earth.
You're so brave for going 6,661 miles away to China.
Please bring me back a cute Asian baby named Dinah.
You are going to be the cutest English teacher in Ningbo.
Have fun teaching those kiddies everything they need to know.
Be sure to buy a Mulan kimono so we can play dress up.
And on plenty of rice and dumplings please sup.
Play with tigers and ride some pandas at the zoo.
Oh sister how I'll miss you!

++++++

For those of you who didn't understand my poorly written farewell ode, here's the 411:
On Tuesday Megan is leaving for Ningbo, China approximately 6,661 miles away from me and it's not like I can just hop on a plane to visit her whenever I want. I would never in a million years go to a foreign country where I can't speak the language all by myself for four months! (That's right four months!!) But then again, she's always been the braver sister.
I think we always knew Megan would one day visit China.
Maybe it's because we had a Mulan obsession: We've watched the movie too many times to count, we used our asian pajamas we wore every night to both be Mulan for Halloween, and at our princess birthday party Megan chose to be Mulan. (I was Ariel but there were other motives behind that choice. ie. my crush was coming as Prince Eric.)  Or maybe it's because she's obsessed with Asian babies. Either way, I'm happy she gets to go on this Asian adventure!
we're the two in the asian getup obvi
Keep up with her adventures at http://meganbuckley12.blogspot.com/

Miss you! Love you! xoxo
