super saturday

Last Saturday we took the trolley on an adventure downtown to Little Italy. Samuel works in this tall, fancy building a few blocks from Little Italy and per usual takes a walk on his lunch break to explore the area. But this time he got to show me around!

We had breakfast at a little French breakfast place and then browsed the numerous Farmer's Market stands. It's a super fun atmosphere and I can't believe we've never visited before! In fact, this was Sam's first experience at a Farmer's Market! Is he even human? I grew up playing my violin at the Farmer's Market every Saturday in downtown Modesto. Embarrassing I know. I couldn't help but stop and watch the little family of violin performers and sympathize with them lol.

Then we stopped by the San Diego County Fair. We went last year for the first time but it was definitely more crowded this year! And sad to say that the petting zoo was also less impressive. There were no baby goats. Just a couple old ugly ones. Such a shame. Even though the crowds were insane but we just enjoyed walking around and watching people fail miserably at all the rigged games. Sam even got brave enough to try one and the end result wasn't so great....someone was a little grumpy afterward but my teasing didn't help either. Love you Samuel! ;)

We witnessed a beautiful sunset and had some tasty corn dogs and bbq. So that's all you really need right? We missed out on the cotton candy and funnel cake this time but that's what next year's for. Something to look forward too. And hoping next year I'll get a ride buddy to go on all the rides with me.

utah summer

Sam had a little break before the start his new internship and I had just finished a job so we both had a few free days before the craziness of the summer began so we took a quick trip to Utah to visit family. Best decision ever! We left right after I finished work on Friday afternoon and were there until Tuesday night. Super quick trip but we had it all planned out of what we wanted to do--see the mountains!!

And we did just that. We had a picnic up in the canyon with Sam's family. The boys played frisbee and football and then we all joined in for a competitive game of badminton. I'm proud to say my team won but I wasn't too much help the next couple days when we played volleyball. #sorryguys but that's why I didn't make the Somerset volleyball team in 7th grade when Erica and Morgan convinced me to try out.

^ Sam's front yard. Heart eyes.

Sam and I also drove up to Sundance too because we were still craving some mountain air and views.

 ^ self timer fail ^

Of course we went to Seven Peaks because the whole fam had passes. But can you believe I have never been to the waterpark ever!! Maybe I did when I was little, but still that is so un-Provo of me!

Stopped at some famous Utah eats like Hokulia,

Slab with Abby!!

and Cafe Rio with Dad, Grandma Carol, Meg & Sara.

I read to Sam aloud the whole way there and back. We finished the whole book and I lost my voice.
And we witnessed this pretty sunset.

We love you Utah! Until next time.

party week on a budget

This past week was a little out of the ordinary because we basically just partied everyday. While Sammy is in limbo-land aka video game heaven before his summer internship starts, I try to grab any little time that I have left with him. We didn't do anything crazy or expensive because we are trying to be frugal, but that's what you get when you're an #adult. So here's a look at what we did this week on our law school budget.

Monday night after Cortney and I got home from work #workingwives , we + husbands met up at Belmont Park in Mission Beach. We kept it simple with some window shopping, sunset and surf watching on the beach, and for only $6 we rode the Giant Dipper Rollercoaster.
10/10 would recommend. Best $6 I've ever spent. Go sometime.

Tuesday I didn't have work so Sam planned a day at Balboa Park. Most of the museums are free entry on Tuesdays and I've been dying to go to the Botanical Garden so it was perfect. The Botanical Garden wasn't as amazing as I hoped but it was free and like we stepped into the Jurassic Park jungle so that was cool....but w/o the dinos so even better.

And to top off Tuesday, another cheap form of high quality entertainment -- a Bachelorette viewing party with some friends.

Wednesday & Thursday just work, which is also frugal because I'm making money/bringing home the bacon/making it rain/bringing home the Benjamins...and all those other money idioms.

Friday was my last "free Friday" before work starts. We started off the overcast morning wandering La Jolla and had some breakfast at the Cottage (definitely not budget friendly but it was kinda a bargain because that one meal held me over for breakfast, lunch, and an early dinner...)

We then headed to the beach totally expecting the Memorial Day crowds but we got a front row parking spot, had the beach basically all to ourselves, and the sun came out for a nice 75 degree beach day!

Saturday we beached it up again but this time with some surfing included. The sun was MIA but that's totes fine when you got a wetsuit and no crowds stealing your waves.

Sunday, dinner with these hooligan cousins!

It was such a fun week that didn't break the bank & we needed it after all these car repairs (broken AC), my swimsuit buying addiction, and Sam's shoe purchase (sometimes when you are an adult, you have to invest in fancy black shoes to look professional for your summer internship).

Moral of the story, go to the beach for a good free time. Note to self: grow up and work more.
