maeve's birth pt. 2

After the hour we had all together, Maeve had to be taken up to the special care nursery to take care of her infection. Sam went up with her and they started the IV antibiotics. He said they had the hardest time getting the IV started so they poked her probably 7 times before they decided to do it in her head. It was so sad! Then her oxygen levels dropped so she had to be put on oxygen.

The first time I went up to visit Maeve in the nursery and feed her, a nurse wheeled me upstairs and then I was all by myself with Maeve and it was so special. I was not as drugged up so I remember it more than right after my c section. After I fed her I just didn't want to leave her so I sat and just held her for a very long time.

It was actually kind of nice to have a nurse monitoring her 24/7 so I didn't have to worry and I could just focus on sleeping when I was in my room. But every 3 hours or less I would go upstairs to feed her so after the whole process I ended up getting only around 1.5 hours of sleep between each session.

Daddy gave her her first bath but it was just in her warming bed with a washcloth because of all her cords and monitors. She didn't really love it.

I was so sad every time I saw her head IV but all the nurses taking her of her did such a great job. I especially loved the day nurse who took care of her. She was the nicest!

When Maeve finally finished her IV antibiotics, was off oxygen for 24 hours (she ended up only being on oxygen for about 8 hours), and graduated from the special care nursery she finally got to stay with us in my hospital room. We took lots of naps.

They changed the visitor policy the day after I gave birth so mom was able to come visit me but she couldn't see Maeve yet because only parents were allowed in the Special Care Nursery. (Originally due to COVID, only 1 parent visitor was allowed in the nursery so I'm just glad Sam and I were both able to go visit Maeve at the same time.) But when Maeve was finally able to come downstairs and be in my hospital room, Mom finally got to meet her too!

Some quick pics before we left the hospital.

Look at that tiny bb all ready to go home!!
She slept the whole way home and was a precious angel! I loved watching her cheeks bounce the whole way!
